I think that is where the idea came from. As for higher lift, I think it's primary purpose is portability, and use at the track for example, for easy wheel changes, brake pad changes, etc. Just happens to also work well as a quasi-lift for the home garage. The 18" it provides is plenty for anything I'll ever do in my garage at home. It's plenty of height to drop the transmission, etc. And a higher weight load? 5000 lbs is plenty for anything I own, at least.
